Green Initiatives In addition to our focus on developing, marketing and distributing products that enhance human health and foster a transition toward sustainability, Blue Ribbon Supply is committed to encouraging and sustaining an environmentally-friendly workplace through employee programs, waste reduction, and an environmentally responsible business approach. This is highly evident through the significant contributions we have made to the environment shown below. LEED Gold Certification As a true sign of our focus on the environment, Blue Ribbon Supply has been awarded LEED®-EB Gold designation for their headquarters - which includes our office, warehouse and parking complex located in South San Francisco, California. LEED certification for Existing Buildings was developed and is administered by the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) to address whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues (including chemical use), recycling programs, exterior maintenance programs, and system upgrades. Solar Electric System Blue Ribbon Supply uses a 36.74 kW DC solar PV electric system atop the roof of our worldwide headquarters in South San Francisco, California. The system consists of 162 solar modules on our roof. This upgrade to our building eliminates approximately 40 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually and is the carbon dioxide equivalent of planting over 200 trees each year. In addition, our solar system will avoid producing other pollutants created by conventional energy generation including soot, mercury, NOx and Sox. Our Enlighten website provides a wide range of information on the performance of our solar power system and individual modules. A graphical representation of the solar array provides "at a glance" information on the status of each module. More detailed information, including current and lifetime performance metrics, provides a true view of the benefits of our solar energy installation. 100% Renewable Energy Supplied Dedicated to protecting our environment, Blue Ribbon Supply has been recognized as being one of the very first companies to convert to the purchase of Peninsula Clean Energy’s ECO100 100% renewable energy service whenever supplemental power is required. ECO100 is Green-e Energy certified, and meets the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. ChargePoint Networked Charging Station One day in the future, many of us believe that we might all drive around in electric cars and gas pumps will be replaced by clean charging stations. Recognizing this rapidly approaching change in transportation, Blue Ribbon Supply installed and activated one of the first networked ChargePoint Charging Stations in the parking lot of our South San Francisco headquarters. We made this move because we believe it is important for our company to take the first step to help create an electric vehicle infrastructure within our industry and region. This is another way we hope we might be able to help fulfill our commitment to lead the industry in environmentally friendly practices. The charging station was manufactured by Coulomb Technologies (now Chargepoint), a leader in electric vehicle charging solutions and has stations located worldwide. The Chargepoint-run site displays charging stations on a Google Map, with a colored pin letting you know in real-time whether someone is currently topping off their Tesla. If you're the type with foresight -- you did buy an electric car, after all -- you can schedule some quality time with an outlet on the site using your ChargePass card online. It is available for use 24-hours a day by both our customers and our employees. LEED AP O+M Certificated Sales Team Leader John Dilena, General Manager & Sales Team Leader of Blue Ribbon Supply Company, is charged with the development and growth of our strategic relationships with customers, suppliers and key industry partners to maximize business development opportunities. John’s background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from California State University Chico (www.csuchico.edu) as well as a U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org) LEED AP O+M certificate. The LEED AP O+M (Operations & Maintenance) credential requires extensive training in – and a thorough understanding of - the operation and maintenance of existing buildings implementing sustainable practices and reducing the environmental impact of a building over its functional life cycle. As a LEED AP, John is available to customers for consultation concerning any application you may be seeking for USGBC LEED certification. Low energy-use lighting In our office and warehouse, we use special linear fluorescent fixtures in all main work areas throughout the building, which are more energy efficient and will provide a more even distribution of light where needed. Occupancy light sensors are used in our washrooms, our showroom and throughout our warehouse to avoid having the lights on all the time, minimizing energy consumption. Finally, large windows and skylights provide substantial daylight wherever possible, so that fewer lights are required. Reduced Water Use At Blue Ribbon Supply, our bathrooms use low water use fixtures to reduce water consumption in sinks, toilets and urinals. Our landscaping has been designed for low-water-use by grouping plants according to their water needs, using native plants together with low-water-use plants from Australia and New Zealand, and by the use of efficient irrigation systems that schedule irrigation wisely. A Green Work Environment Our work environment is full of things that encourage our employees to be more environmentally-friendly. For instance, we have eliminated all bottled water and replaced it with a water filtration system. We also recycle anything we can. Some of these items include paper, cardboard, newspaper, plastic, aluminum and even used ink cartridges. Sustainable Vendors Blue Ribbon Supply strives to use sustainable vendors whenever possible and continues to add earth friendly products to the portfolio of products available to our customers. Please contact us if you have something to offer that enhances human health and can further foster a transition toward sustainability.
